Ella Mai is feeling the love-and the rhythm-when it comes to her son,Dylan. The “Boo’d Up” singer opened up about her excitement that her little one is already showing an affinity for music, revealing that he’s a “musical baby” at the MusiCares 2026 Person of the Year gala on January 30.
“I try not to overdo it because I don’t want him to grow up and be like, ‘she just pushed her music down my throat,'” Mai said, explaining her approach to sharing her work with Dylan. “but I do try and play a lot of music around him.”
What sparked Mai’s observation about Dylan’s natural musicality? His current obsession with the animated film Sing. “He was watching the movie Sing today, which is his new obsession, so I love that he loves that,” she added. The 31-year-old singer also shared an update on Dylan’s development,noting that he’s actively talking-albeit in his own unique way. “He’s talking mostly gibberish, but thinking that he makes sense,” Mai said with a smile.
Mai’s careful approach to introducing Dylan to her music reflects a desire to allow him to develop his own tastes and interests.
