SuperSport, a leading pay-TV service across Sub-Saharan Africa, has extended its broadcast agreement for the LIV Golf League through the 2026 season. This renewal comes just ahead of LIV Golf’s inaugural event in South Africa, scheduled for March 19 to 22 at the Club at Steyn City course in Johannesburg.
South African Golf in the Spotlight
The extended partnership ensures African viewers will have access to LIV Golf action, with a particular focus on the Southern Guards GC team featuring local favorites.

Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and Charl Schwartzel – all South African golfers – compete as members of the Southern Guards GC team. Their participation is expected to draw significant viewership from across the region. SuperSport has already captivated audiences with a five-part documentary series focusing on the team, currently available on the DStv CatchUp service.
Rendani Ramovha, director for sport and content in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa for SuperSport owner Canal+, emphasized the significance of the partnership. “This partnership with LIV Golf is a credit not just to the broadcast capabilities of SuperSport in bringing the world’s finest golfers in immaculate broadcast quality to viewers across Africa, but to South African golf as a whole,” Ramovha stated.
Expanding Rights and Global Reach
Canal+ completed its acquisition of SuperSport’s parent company, MultiChoice, in 2025. Since then, the group has bolstered its sports rights portfolio, adding competitions like basketball’s NBA and the recent Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament.
Ramovha further explained, “As part of our integration into the global Canal+ Group ecosystem, we are committed to leveraging our best-in-class production and technical facilities to showcase the South Africa event to the rest of the world. This will pave the way for developing golf further in Africa.”
SuperSport’s inclusion in LIV’s broadcast network signals a turning point for the tour, which faced initial controversy upon its launch four years ago. The league has steadily built a robust portfolio of major broadcasters for its events. Last month, LIV secured broadcast deals with TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland, Sky Deutschland in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and streaming platform Viaplay in the Nordics.
The tour’s most substantial rights agreement to date was a multi-year deal with Fox Sports in the United States, finalized last year. Additional partnerships include agreements with Coupang Play in South Korea, Movistar Plus+ in Spain, and international sports streaming service DAZN.
A Global Season
The 2026 LIV Golf Season will encompass 14 events across 10 countries and five continents, beginning with a tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from February 4 to 7. Other stops include Adelaide, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, the USA, and the UK.
The upcoming season will feature 57 players, including prominent names like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Joaquín Niemann, and Tyrrell Hatton. Masters champions Sergio García, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Phil Mickelson will also compete across 13 teams, alongside five Wild Card entrants.
Canal+’s MultiChoice holds the majority of English-language sports rights in Sub-Saharan Africa, including the English Premier League, American football’s NFL, motor racing’s Formula 1, and major international cricket tournaments. As of September 2023, MultiChoice reported nearly 22 million subscribers, while Canal+ claimed 31 million subscribers across the continent following the acquisition.
