Person Detained in Connection with Savannah Guthrie’s Mother’s Abduction

A person has been taken into custody for questioning regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Tuesday night.

Authorities detained the individual during a traffic stop south of Tucson, Arizona, earlier on Tuesday. According to a statement released on X, the subject is currently being questioned in connection with the investigation into the whereabouts of Nancy Guthrie. No further details regarding the individual’s identity or the specifics of the questioning have been released, and updates on Nancy Guthrie’s location remain unavailable.

FBI Releases Surveillance Footage of Potential Suspect

The development follows the FBI’s release of surveillance photos and videos depicting a potential suspect in the case. The footage, obtained from doorbell and security cameras at Nancy Guthrie’s residence, shows an individual wearing a jacket, ski mask, and gloves, carrying a backpack and appearing to have a firearm at the waist.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was initially reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after failing to attend church. Local law enforcement and the FBI quickly classified her disappearance as a potential kidnapping or abduction.

Guthrie Family Pleads for Mother’s Safe Return

Savannah Guthrie, along with her brother Camron Guthrie and sister Annie Guthrie, have publicly appealed for the safe return of their mother, sharing multiple video messages online. On February 4, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department acknowledged reports of a ransom note, initially obtained by TMZ and several Arizona news outlets, stating that investigators were “following all leads.”

One day later, Savannah Guthrie confirmed that the family had been informed of the ransom note’s existence and expressed their willingness to negotiate with the suspected abductor. “We have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media,” she stated, “and we are ready to talk.”

Willingness to Pay Ransom

On February 7, the television host and her siblings shared another video message, revealing they had received a direct message from the alleged kidnapper and were prepared to pay a ransom to secure their mother’s release.

“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” Savannah Guthrie pleaded. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s statement on Tuesday night represents the most significant development in the case since the family’s public appeals and confirmation of the ransom demand. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further information will be released as it becomes available.
