NFL & Bild Group Announce Strategic Partnership to Expand German Market
The National Football League (NFL) and the Bild Group have forged a strategic alliance aimed at significantly expanding the NFL’s footprint in Germany and enhancing offerings for fans. The agreement, finalized during events surrounding Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, signals a major investment in the growing European market for American football.
The partnership will see Bild and Sport Bild receive comprehensive video license content for the weekly NFL show “Playbook,” a key component of the expanded coverage. This collaboration aims to deliver a more immersive experience for German fans, going beyond major events like the Super Bowl and NFL Germany Games to provide consistent, engaging content throughout the season.
Growing NFL Presence in Germany
The NFL has been steadily increasing its presence in Germany, recognizing the country’s potential as a key international market. According to a company release, the partnership with the Bild Group represents a significant step forward in this strategy. Joint marketing activities and events are already planned, including a “Touchdown Berlin Dinner” held in conjunction with the upcoming 2025 NFL Berlin Games.
“With the Bild Group we are gaining a strong partner to further promote the enthusiasm and fascination for the NFL in Germany and to provide new impulses,” stated a senior NFL official. “Together we would like to bring the stories surrounding the NFL even closer to fans, inspire new target groups and make football in Germany a year-round experience.”
Enhanced Content for German Fans
The core of the partnership revolves around providing German audiences with more consistent access to NFL content. The “Playbook” show will serve as a central hub, offering fans an overview of key league events each week during the season. This expanded coverage builds upon the existing popularity of the NFL in Germany, which has seen increasing viewership and engagement in recent years.
“American football is becoming more and more present and popular in Germany,” explained a representative from Sport Bild Group. “In cooperation with the NFL, we can offer this sport an even bigger stage with the highlights of the games on Bild, as in our NFL show ‘Playbook’. We are very happy about this joint touchdown with the NFL and great scenes from the best NFL teams on Bild and Sport Bild.”
The agreement was confirmed by key leaders from both organizations, including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Gerrit Meier (Managing Director, Head of NFL International), Alexander Steinforth (NFL Germany General Manager), Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner, and Claudius Senst (COO and member of the board of Axel Springer).
This strategic partnership underscores the NFL’s commitment to international growth and its belief in the potential of the German market to become a major hub for American football fandom.
