‘Fate War 49’ Contestant Cherry Blossom Doryeong Reveals Divine Inspiration Behind Her Appearance
A contestant on the Disney+ survival program ‘Fate War 49’ is captivating audiences with a unique blend of traditional practice and modern flair. Cherry Blossom Doryeong, a self-described “brown cosplay shaman,” shared the personal motivation behind her participation in the show: a directive from her spiritual guide, known as Grandmother Daeshin.
The rising star posted an introduction on her social media account on Thursday, identifying herself as Cheongmundang Cherry Blossom Doryeong and highlighting her appearance on “Shaman Survival Destiny War 49.” The program, which premiered on November 11th, pits 49 fortunetellers against each other in a series of challenges designed to test their abilities.
According to reports, Doryeong initially hesitated about joining the show. However, she ultimately decided to participate after receiving encouragement from Grandmother Daeshin, a significant deity in shamanism representing the spirits of elder female shamans – known as Mujosin. “I thought a lot about the offer to cosplay and appear, but when my grandmother told me to stop curling up and go out into the world, I decided to go,” Doryeong explained.
Doryeong’s unconventional approach to presenting her craft has already garnered significant attention. She famously appeared in the first episode of ‘Fate War 49’ sporting a cathode ray tube TV on her head, a striking visual that immediately captivated viewers.
Responding to questions from fans, Doryeong addressed concerns about the appropriateness of cosplay within her spiritual practice. She stated that her guiding spirits, referred to as “the Aggies,” have granted their approval. She also clarified that she received an appearance fee for the program, which she used to purchase a traditional shaman costume.
The contestant acknowledged that interpretations of spiritual guidelines can vary. When asked about conflicting advice from another shaman, she explained, “It seems like the spirit over there is a bit stricter. He’s not my spirit, so I think it’s different for each god and each shaman.” This highlights the deeply personal and individualized nature of shamanic practice.
‘Fate War 49’ is a survival program featuring 49 fortunetellers from diverse backgrounds – including shamanism and contemplation – competing through various fate-testing missions. Cherry Blossom Doryeong’s unique approach and compelling backstory are quickly establishing her as a standout contestant, sparking conversation about the evolving intersection of tradition and contemporary culture.
