Axel Arigato Launches Zane Sneaker for Spring/Summer 2026 | WWD

Axel Arigato, the Swedish footwear and apparel brand, is expanding its sneaker line with the launch of the Zane, a low-profile silhouette designed for the spring/summer 2026 season. The release signals a continued focus on understated design and comfort for the brand, building on the success of last year’s Daze sneaker. The Zane, part of the “Green Space” collection, arrives as Axel Arigato navigates a period of internal transition with a recent change in leadership.

Creative director Jens Werner described the Zane as a more “substantial” shoe than some of the brand’s previous offerings, prioritizing both feel and a forward-looking aesthetic. “It also has those familiar design codes of an off-court sneaker but also a bit more of those future elements in terms of comfort,” Werner explained. The new sneaker reflects a broader industry trend toward optimistic and vibrant colors, a direction Axel Arigato is increasingly embracing.

A Focus on Low-Profile Design and Comfort

The Zane’s design emphasizes a terrace-inspired aesthetic, a style that has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years. The sneaker is crafted in Portugal, utilizing leather with suede overlays, and is available in colorways featuring entirely suede uppers. Attention to detail is evident in the off-set stitch detail along the eyestay and the T-toe construction. The design incorporates elements from the brand’s Clean 90 sneaker, notably the decorative stitching that curves along the side panel.

Beyond aesthetics, the Zane incorporates sustainable materials. The outsole, inspired by knit textures, is constructed from a rubber blend incorporating recycled content. This commitment to sustainability aligns with a growing consumer demand for environmentally conscious products within the footwear industry, as reported by Footwear News. The Zane’s construction aims to balance classic sneaker design with modern comfort and responsible manufacturing.

Color and Collaboration Drive the Launch

Axel Arigato is taking a bolder approach to color with the Zane, offering a wider range of options than previous launches. Women’s colorways include Off White/Gum, Black/Off White, Taupe/Dark Grey, Tan/Off White, Light Yellow/Gum, and Lilac/Gum. The men’s assortment features Off White/Gum, Black/Off White, Light Blue/Dark Brown, Tan/Off White, Taupe/Dark Grey, and Light Yellow/Gum. This expanded palette reflects a shift within the industry towards more optimistic and vibrant hues, a trend Werner acknowledged.

To amplify the launch, Axel Arigato has partnered with Lime, the electric bike and scooter company, on a multi-city initiative. In London, Lime bikes will be used for a dedicated launch activation. Customers purchasing the Zane sneaker in New York, London, Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, and Copenhagen will receive a complimentary 30-minute Lime ride, with the first 100 customers per market eligible for the offer. This collaboration aims to connect the sneaker launch with a lifestyle of urban mobility and sustainability.

Navigating Leadership Changes and Future Growth

The Zane launch occurs during a period of transition for Axel Arigato. In January, Albin Johansson, co-founder of the brand alongside Max Svärdh, stepped down from his role as chief executive officer, as WWD reported. Johansson will remain on the company’s board. One of Johansson’s final initiatives as CEO was the opening of Axel Arigato’s first U.S. Store in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood in 2024, a strategic move to establish a stronger presence in the American market.

Werner noted that the SoHo store opening was intended to position the company for a series of new product launches, including the Zane. He also highlighted the positive reception of new products in the U.S. Market, particularly in New York, where the brand has been able to showcase its full range. While the U.S. Market has responded enthusiastically, Werner noted that the U.K. And France have been “a bit slower” to embrace new releases.

Looking ahead, Axel Arigato is developing additional footwear styles. A new comfort runner is slated for release in October, and a skate-inspired shoe is expected to launch this summer. Werner described the skate shoe as featuring a “simple cupsole style but with a lot of interesting angles.”

Axel Arigato’s Zane sneaker, priced at $330, will be available online and in stores beginning March 25. The brand will continue to monitor market response and refine its offerings as it navigates its evolving leadership structure and expands its global reach. Further updates on the brand’s new silhouettes are expected in the coming months.
