Blizzard is doubling down on its current momentum as it enters the next phase of its reorganized ecosystem. Moving away from the restrictive numbering of the previous era, the studio is launching Season 2 of its new direction on April 14, centering the update around the second chapter of the “Reign of Talon” storyline, titled “Summit.”
The update arrives at a critical juncture for the title, blending significant gameplay shifts with a return to community-driven features that were stripped away during the transition to the sequel in 2023. From the introduction of a complex new combatant to the overhaul of a dormant map, the everything new coming to Overwatch Season 2 update aims to stabilize the competitive experience while expanding the lore.
The launch is scheduled for 11 am PT / 2 pm ET / 7 pm GMT, signaling a push toward more aggressive content cycles. For players, this means not just new skins and a battle pass, but a fundamental shift in how they interact with teammates and navigate the arctic tundra of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Sierra: A New Recon DPS and the Grand Mesa Connection
The centerpiece of the update is Sierra, a new DPS hero who serves as the Head of Security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa. Her introduction is as much a narrative pivot as We see a mechanical one; Sierra’s history is tied to the Soldier Enhancement Program, as she seeks answers regarding her mother, the program’s first test subject. This familial connection naturally links her to Jack Morrison, better known as Soldier: 76.
Mechanically, Sierra introduces a “recon” subrole, meaning she can reveal enemies who have been damaged down to half health. Her toolkit is designed for high mobility and precision, supported by her combat drone, Dorothy.
Her primary weapon, the Helix Rifle, shoots in a spiral pattern that tightens and gains accuracy the longer the trigger is held. To complement this, her “Tracking Shot” ability marks enemies, allowing the Helix Rifle to automatically track targets. For movement, she utilizes the Anchor Drone to launch herself into the air, while her “Tremor Charge” grenade creates a disruptive shockwave upon impact.
Her ultimate, “Trailblazer,” deploys a drone that rains explosives across the battlefield. Players can further customize her performance through a perk system:
- Minor Perks: “Full Flight” increases Anchor Drone range by 25%, while “Tight Grip” improves the Helix Rifle’s bullet speed and spread.
- Major Perks: “Medi-Drone” allows Anchor Drones to provide minor health packs, whereas “Locked In” boosts attack speed by 20% for two seconds after firing a tracking shot.
Returning Accolades and the Antarctic Peninsula Rework
Beyond the new hero, Blizzard is addressing long-standing community grievances by bringing back post-match accolades. This feature, which vanished during the 2023 transition, allows players to vote for an MVP from a pool of four candidates. This shift moves the focus away from the “Play of the Game” highlight—which often rewards high-damage multikills—and toward the unsung heroes, such as supports who maintained the team’s health or tanks who held the objective.

Simultaneously, the Antarctic Peninsula control map is returning to rotation after being offline since late 2025. The rework focuses on “cleaner engagements” and more intuitive flank routes. Specifically, the Icebreaker area now features streamlined paths toward the point, the Research Station has an opened main choke and a new backside flank, and the Underground section has been updated with higher ceilings and clearer staging areas to improve visibility.
Mythic Progression and the LE SSERAFIM Return
The Season 2 economy continues to lean into Mythic skins, which offer tiered progression. Soldier: 76 receives the “Volted Overdrive” skin, which evolves from biotech VFX at Level 1 to full ambient sparks at Level 4, including new hairstyles and colorways. Genji also receives a Mythic weapon skin, “Sumi-Ichimonji,” which adds ink-splatter reactivity and unique kill VFX as it levels up.
In terms of collaborations, the K-pop group LE SSERAFIM returns for a third time with a bundle containing all 15 legendary skins released to date. A “Sakura” collection brings cherry blossom themes to Hanzo, Genji, Freja, Juno, Emre, and Junker Queen. Teasers also suggest a future Diablo crossover, specifically a Mephisto-themed skin for Ramattra.
The “Spring Fairy” themed Battle Pass rounds out the cosmetics, featuring legendary looks for Ashe, Lifeweaver, Moira, Wuyang, and Echo. The Ultimate tier adds Spring Fairy Illari and Painter Sierra, along with 2,000 Overwatch coins and 20 tier skips.
Hero Perk Adjustments
To keep the competitive meta fluid, Blizzard is refreshing perks for several legacy heroes. These changes are designed to provide more utility and survival options in high-stakes matches.

| Hero | Perk Name | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Ramattra | Prolonged Barrier | Void Barrier size and duration increased by 25% |
| Pharah | (Minor Perk) | Concussive Blast deals up to 50 explosion damage |
| Reaper | Trigger Finger | Refreshes Dire Triggers cooldown on ability/reload |
| Soldier: 76 | Agility Training | Sprint speed increases by up to 60% after 2 seconds |
| Mercy | Double Dose | Flash Heal receives an additional charge |
Operation: Grand Mesa and Stadium Evolution
The “Operation: Grand Mesa” event will run from April 14 to May 4. This limited-time event serves as the primary vehicle for lore delivery, unlocking details about Sierra and the Grand Mesa location as players complete challenges. Rewards include voice lines, name cards, rare titles, and loot boxes.
Finally, the “Stadium” mode is seeing a significant update. Ramattra joins the playable roster, Juno receives a rework, and “Jetpack Cat” is slated for a mid-season arrival. Lijiang Night Market is also being added to the Stadium map pool. In a move to improve the competitive climb, the traditional season reset is being replaced by a new decay system, which the studio claims will allow for smoother transitions between ranks.
With the “Summit” chapter now live, the focus shifts to how Sierra’s recon abilities will alter the current DPS hierarchy and whether the map reworks successfully solve the congestion issues of the Antarctic Peninsula. Official updates and patch notes can be tracked via the official Overwatch website.
