Czech actor Pavel Liška steps in front of the cameras as a grandfather for the first time in the new family feel-good comedy Děda s podmínkou

West Bohemia has transformed into a cinematic backdrop for a new feature film following a lengthy development process. Production on the family comedy kicked off in August, marking a milestone for one of the Czech Republic’s recognizable screen actors as he tackles a brand-new type of role.
Pavel Liška Takes on Grandfather Role in Děda s podmínkou
The project pairs Pavel Liška with a script he has followed for years. I’ve been lying in it for about three years, Liška noted, explaining that the project’s screenplay ultimately drew him in. The actor, whose last big-screen appearance came two years ago in the comedy Aristokratka ve varu
, stars as Hynek. In the plot, his character does not even know he is a grandfather until circumstances force him to step up.
Hynek becomes an accidental lifeline for his grandson Tadeáš, played by ten-year-old Daniel Dongres. The boy’s single mother, portrayed by Judit Pecháček, ends up in a coma following an accident. The supporting cast features a recognizable ensemble including Martin Pechlát, Marek Daniel, Petra Hřebíčková, and Diana Dulínková.
Production Moves Through Plzeň and Karlovy Vary Regions
According to PR manager Vratislav Vozník, the production team scheduled twenty days of shooting across the west of the Czech Republic throughout August. The first clap rang out in Plzeň, where the crew tested its rhythm under a debut director. Production then shifted to the Karlovy Vary Region, with filming locations set in Sokolov, Chodov, and Ostrov.
Behind the camera, the film brings together a crew. The original script was written by Marcel Bystroň, whose previous writing credits include the fourth installment of Kameňák
in 2013, Jak se zbavit nevěsty
in 2016, and Špunti na vodě
in 2017. Directorial duties fell to debutant Marek Čermák, who previously gained experience working as an assistant director alongside filmmakers such as Agnieszka Holland.
A Three-Year Development Journey Tailored for the Cast
Getting the film to its first day of shooting required meticulous preparation. Director Marek Čermák joined the project roughly two years before production started, spending the interim refining dialogue and narrative arcs.
About the lead actor, it was decided even before I entered the project two years ago. Since then, we have discussed the script, tuned the plot lines and other characters, and minor adjustments are of course made on set. As a director, I appreciate how Pavel threw himself into the project and the role, and that allowed us to fine-tune a script full of living characters.

Producer Ludvik Mareček from the production company Fresh Lobster praised the cast’s chemistry during the opening days of production in Plzeň. Mareček noted that the collaboration between Liška, Marek Daniel, Martin Pechlát, and Diana Dulínková gave the production a smooth start on set.

, a film that also featured Pavel Liška. This shared history helped the actor and producers align creatively before cameras started rolling in West Bohemia.
The production receives financial backing and support from both the Karlovy Vary Region and the Plzeň Region. Technical and artistic roles are filled by cinematographer Viktor Smutný, production designer Jana Bejblová, makeup artist Hana Šímová, costume designer Paulína Šmejkalová, and sound designer Michal Deliopulos.
With principal photography underway across West Bohemia through the current month, producers and distributors are looking well down the road. The theatrical premiere is scheduled for late summer 2027, giving the production team ample time to complete editing and post-production on the feel-good comedy.
