Monster Hunter Wilds arrives on the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, featuring a dedicated console bundle priced at 61,980 yen in Japan, and a $39.99 physical Game-Key Card release alongside a $29.99 launch digital edition.

Bundle Details, Pricing, and Release Formats

The mainline Monster Hunter series will debut on the Switch 2 this December. Nintendo and Capcom announced during a Japanese Direct showcase that hunters in this location will be able to pick up not only the game on 4th December 2026, but also a brand-new Switch 2 bundle. The hardware package pairs a standard Switch 2 unit and Joy-Con 2 controller with a digital copy of the game and a three-month Switch Online subscription to join other hunters online. Reservations for the Monster Hunter bundle are currently being accepted on the Nintendo Store in Japan for 61,980 yen. Nintendo and Capcom have stated they will provide an update if there is any news about this Switch 2 Monster Hunter bundle getting a release outside of this region.

For players purchasing software separately, Capcom confirmed that the Monster Hunter Wilds’ Switch 2 local retail release is a ‘Game-Key Card’, available for $39.99. At launch, the digital version will be available for the special discounted price of $29.99. Hunters can also look forward to the game’s “massive” new expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, which is arriving on the Switch 2 in 2027. Capcom had confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 back in June, though whether or not Ascendance will come to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the same date as it does on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S remains unknown.

Performance Targets and Local Multiplayer Modes

Technical details for the upcoming port point to a careful balance between visual fidelity and frame rate stability. During Nintendo’s September 2026 Direct showcase, Capcom announced the December 4th release date with a new trailer that confirms that the release will include all title updates so far, and that the expansion – Ascendance – is also being developed for the platform. Capcom had confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 back in June.

The trailer announcing the port also gave a look at the performance and visual fidelity that Capcom has been aiming for, managing a relatively smooth frame rate of between 30 and 40 FPS without sacrificing too much on the visual quality side of things. Reports from last month had indicated that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds would use dynamic resolutions of between 1080p and 1440p while the console was docked. Handheld mode resolution is reportedly set to range from 720p to 864p. The performance target of between 30 and 40 FPS was also reportedly being achieved through heavy use of technologies like DLSS.

In addition to performance metrics, the port introduces functional hardware benefits. The Nintendo Switch 2 release of Monster Hunter Wilds will also include local multiplayer, allowing multiple Switch 2 users to play together without having to connect online.

Hands-On Demos and Tokyo Game Show Showcases

Fans attending events can experience the port firsthand. Additional playable demos have been confirmed, including the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds at the Capcom Booth. Monster Hunter Wilds for Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for release on Friday, December 4, 2026, will be on display at TGS 2026. Players can play the game if they have a demo ticket, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are assigned by quest and are available in limited quantities.
