Johny Srouji, recognized as the high-ranking executive who spearheaded the company’s shift toward proprietary silicon, approached Tim Cook late last summer with an intention to step down.
The Strategic Shift Behind Custom Silicon and Internal Promotion
Srouji has directed Apple’s core processor development since 2011, eventually becoming the company’s top semiconductor official in 2015. His leadership proved vital to reducing Apple’s reliance on external chipmakers. He orchestrated the development of A-series processors for iPhones and iPads, followed by the M-series chips that powered the transition away from Intel architecture. Srouji’s potential exit also carries heavy implications for Apple’s Israeli research and development centers in Haifa and Herzliya, which were established and expanded under his guidance.
