Director Kirill Serebrennikov staged the opera in Amsterdam

Director Kirill Serebrennikov staged the opera Free Shooter in Amsterdam. This is the first German national opera by Rainer Maria von Weber. The Russian director decided to radically update the plot and the dialogues for the Dutch production were rewritten.

The German forests in Serebrennikov’s vision turned into a rehearsal studio, the main character becomes a nervous tenor, and the devil in the new director’s adaptation is presented as a cruel conductor. The mythological opera thus became a reflection of intra-collective creative ups and downs.

This is not the theater director’s first musical experiment. Earlier it was reported that the Bolshoi Theater canceled the May performances of the Nureyev ballet in its production.

The well-known Russian director left Russia at the end of March after the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow announced the cancellation of the suspended sentence against Kirill Serebrennikov and cleared his criminal record. It was reported that Serebrennikov is in France.

At the recently completed Cannes Film Festival, the director’s film “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” got into the main program, but was left without awards.
