While the NBA is still on hiatus, the free agent market provides quite a bit of action in the best league in the world and tonight (Saturday through Sunday) we also got basketball: the summer league kicked off in San Francisco with an Israeli representative. Gabi Chachashvili came on top with Golden State losing 86:68 to Sacramento on the opening night.
Chachashvili, who played last season for Hapoel Galil Elyon and was mentioned as a candidate for Maccabi Tel Aviv, received 14:13 minutes in which he scored 5 points in 2 of 6 from the field with 1 of 3 from the penalty line, one offensive rebound and a steal. 9,000 spectators at Chase Center, the home hall of the NBA champion – one of them Steph Kerry – the most prominent player in the Warriors was Guy Santos who was selected 55th in the draft and finished with 23 points and 6 rebounds, Peyton Willis added 12 points.
In Sacramento, Kigan Murray stood out who was selected fourth in the last draft and finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Namias Quetta (12 points) and Alex O’Connell (10) also scored in double figures. Ex Hapoel Holon, Nate Sestina, finished with 8 points.
In another game in the summer league the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Miami 66: 100. Scotty Pippin Jr. scored 14 points for the winners, who received 6 points from Sharif O’Neill, Shaquille’s son. Mac McLong led the Lakers with 17 points, 15 for Paris Bass and 13 for Cole Swider. In Miami Jabonta Smart stood out with 13 points, Haywood Heismith and Kyle Widow Jr. added 11 each.
