A 25-year-old Nesher resident was arrested this evening (Saturday) by Haifa police officers in cooperation with YSM fighters on suspicion of throwing a torch outside the Sami Ofer Stadium in Haifa where the Haifa derby game takes place.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, officers seized two IDF smoke grenades, fireworks and another torch while the grenades were being handled by a sapper.

The police intend to request an extension of the suspect’s detention in the Magistrate’s Court in Haifa tomorrow.

The police said: “The Israel Police will act against manifestations of violence under the” Prohibition of Violence in Sports Law “which aims to allow various sports fans a fun and non-violent sports experience of any kind and will bring to justice those who have improved the law.”
