Between January 9 and June 17, 2022, the accused posted 18 videos on “TikTok” through his personal profiles of the social media “TikTok”, thus spreading materials glorifying terrorism and calling for terrorism.

For example, a man published a video which, in the context of other videos, can be considered as a hint of loyalty to jihad, perseverance in the path of jihad, as well as loyalty to the “Islamic State”.

Another published video is again seen as an Islamist warrior’s desire to go into battle and become a martyr.

Another video contained an overt incitement to physically abuse, attack and kill those who verbally insulted the Prophet.

The court approved the agreement reached between the prosecution and the accused regarding the guilty plea and the sentence. The court sentenced the man to imprisonment for two years. However, the time spent in detention – approximately six months – was included in the sentence.

It has already been reported that the case against the Latvian citizen who converted to Islam was investigated by the State Security Service (VDD) before being handed over for criminal prosecution.

The criminal trial against the Latvian citizen who converted to Islam began on August 14, 2023. The person came to the attention of the VDD because he shared video materials glorifying the ideology of Islamist terrorist groups on the video sharing platform “TikTok”.
