Maria Argyropoulou, professor of the Department of Medicine at the University of Ioannina, was elected a member of the Department of Medicine and Medical Specialties of the National Academy of Medicine of France.


The National Medical Academy of France is the oldest and most important academic institution in France and is under the patronage of the President of the French Republic. It manages, through the four scientific fields, the subjects of Pathology, Surgery, Biology – Pharmacology and Public Health.
The members of the National Academy of Medicine of France are active through multiple committees and working groups on cutting-edge issues that concern the scientific community.
Maria Argyropoulou is a graduate and doctor of the Department of Medicine of the University of Ioannina. Since 2007 she has been a primary Professor and since 2012 Director of the Clinical Radiology and Imaging Laboratory.
He worked for a decade at the Armand-Trousseau, Necker-Enfants Malades and Pitié Salpêtrière hospitals in Paris and specialized in Pediatric Radiology and Neuroradiology. In addition, he worked at the Institut National de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM) and the National Institute of Health (NIH).
He was active in positions of responsibility in important European companies, such as the European Society of Radiology, the European Society of Pediatric Radiology and the European Society of Neuroradiology. He is an honorary member of the European Society of Pediatric Radiology, the European Society of Neuroradiology and received the gold medal of the French Society of Radiology. In 2018 he received the teaching award from the European Society of Radiology. From 2024 he is president of the European Society of Pediatric Radiology (ESPR).
The rector of the University of Ioannina, Anna Batistatou, expresses her warm congratulations to Professor Maria Argyropoulou, wishes her a good and creative tenure and emphasizes that this election expands Greek-French interdisciplinary collaborations, further strengthening the international dimension of the University of Ioannina.
