Tokyo: Four people died in an apartment building fire in Kobe, western Japan. Four people are in critical condition. The three-storey building caught fire around 1.30 am.
Four dead bodies were recovered. Kyodo News reported that when the fire broke out, black smoke was seen coming out of the windows on the first floor.
Masatoshi Sumitani of the Kobe Fire Department said four men, aged between 40 and 70, were taken to hospital unconscious. It was concluded that most of the occupants of the building were elderly men.
The cause of the fire is unclear. Officials said that the police have started an investigation.
