BOLZANO. A large crowd, this afternoon, in the farewell hall of the Bolzano cemetery, gave their last, together with family and friends, Laura Ghirardini60 years old, deputy of the director of the INAIL of Bolzano, a great mountain enthusiast who died on Sunday at the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento, a few hours after the accident which occurred during a ski mountaineering trip in the Catinaccio group .
She fell for over two hundred meters down a slope of snow mixed with rock, before the eyes of her husband Ermanno Filippi, director of the Civic Library, and her daughter Matilde.
The ski mountaineer, with dozens of excursions on snow and rock behind her always in the company of her husband, was climbing when at an altitude of around 2,700 meters she lost her balance and slipped on a sheet of ice, below the summit of Larsec . The first to help her was her husband who also alerted her emergency services.
Transferred by helicopter to Trento hospital, she died a few hours later due to the serious injuries she sustained. Last night she was remembered during the annual meeting of the city section of the CAI of Bolzano of which both she and her husband are historical members.
Moved by the memory of Claudio Sarti, former director of the CAI mountaineering school, lifelong friend of the couple: «Laura was an extroverted, exuberant, volcanic woman; in love with the mountains and culture. She has passions that she has always shared with Ermanno. You also leave a big void in the CAI family.”
Today the members of the “Artemisia” choir of Laives of which Laura Ghirardini was a member also joined the family members. Choir was another of her passions.
Meanwhile, a fundraiser in his memory has already started at Inail. The proceeds will be donated to a charity that the family will choose.
