Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, commented that by illegally grabbing power, the ruling party is now also grabbing the history.

He said, ‘politicians of the country have now become historians. Those in power are the greatest historians. Awami League leaders are using the state apparatus, judiciary to legitimize their fabricated history. They are forcing this history on people.’

He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on Wednesday (April 17).

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) organized a discussion meeting to demand the declaration of April 10 as ‘Republic Day’ in the light of the Declaration of Independence with the aim of establishing equality, human dignity and social justice in the background of the Second Liberation War.

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘Currently, the history of the war of independence is being distorted. The milestones of the liberation war cannot be excluded from here. The history of liberation war cannot be made without Ziaur Rahman. All those who contributed to the freedom struggle should be recognized. The country that made its debut after the declaration of the Republic, after 52 years, an illegal government is sitting in the country. We have nothing worse than this.’

Regarding the upazila elections, he said, ‘Awami League has given the boat symbol in the upazila elections. They think that if there is a boat, people will not come to the polling station. They do not have the courage to go to the people with boats. But they did not cancel the law of going to the election with the party symbol. Awami League is sinking the boat and misleading the people in the upazila elections. They are going to have another election like this.’

Journalists often asked me whether I would go to the upazila election or not? I tell them that in a country where there is no vote, there is no election – I don’t understand how there is talk of going to elections in that country. On January 7, the people rejected the country’s elections. 95 percent of voters did not vote. The remaining 5 percent were forcibly taken away.’

The leader of BNP also said, ‘We who are in the opposition are in unity. We are strong. Many people ask when the movement will be again? I say, when did the movement stop? The movement is ongoing. 95 percent of the people of the country have given a verdict in favor of this movement. Because we have won morally to people.’

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorika Oikya, said, ‘Thousands of crores of people’s taka are being smuggled abroad. The problem is that the state survives. The state now exists as an instrument to fulfill one’s will.’

JSD president AS Abdur Rab said in the president’s speech, ‘We did not go to the liberation war for the sake of anyone. I did not go to the liberation war for tyranny, tyranny, torture, fascism. But today’s state has become desolate. Some can do politics and some can’t, some will usurp power – that’s why I didn’t do the liberation war. From now on, Republic Day will be celebrated on April 10 across the country.

General Secretary of JSD Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan also spoke at the event – General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Haque, Chief Coordinator of Mass Solidarity Movement Jonaid Saki, Convener of Bhashani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Chief Coordinator of State Reform Movement Hasnat Qayyum etc.
