On March 5, a meeting was held in Baku between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov and the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, who is visiting our country.

As Day.Az was told in the Cabinet of Ministers, the prime ministers first held a meeting in a one-on-one format, which then continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from the two countries.

During the meeting, the parties noted the high level of Azerbaijani-Russian strategic partnership in various fields and noted the dynamic development of bilateral ties thanks to close contacts and joint efforts of the presidents of the two countries.

The heads of government discussed current issues of trade, economic and investment cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the implementation – in accordance with the agreements and instructions of the heads of state – of joint projects in the energy, industrial, transport, agricultural, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Stressing the importance of the progressive development of trade and economic cooperation, the parties expressed satisfaction with the record level of mutual trade achieved in 2023, exceeding $4.3 billion. Confidence was also expressed that the trend towards increasing trade turnover will be supported.

The heads of government noted the increase in investment cooperation and confirmed their mutual interest in continuing cooperation on priority investment projects.

The high dynamics of industrial cooperation were emphasized, including the successful implementation of joint projects in Azerbaijan for the production and assembly of trucks, commercial vehicles, and the production of pharmaceuticals.

The transport and transit sector is regarded as a key area of ​​Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation. The volume of cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by more than 11 percent at the end of 2023.

The parties noted the importance of the international North-South transport corridor and welcomed joint efforts to bring the corridor to full capacity. In this regard, the importance of synchronized work to improve road and railway infrastructure and the development of checkpoints across the state border was noted.

Satisfaction was expressed with the traditionally high level of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The parties advocated further intensification of cultural, scientific and youth exchanges, as well as the development of interaction in the field of education.

The parties also welcomed the expansion of interregional cooperation, as evidenced by the successful holding of the 12th Azerbaijan-Russian interregional forum in the Stavropol Territory.

Ali Asadov and Mikhail Mishustin discussed the prospects for further building up mutually beneficial cooperation and confirmed their readiness to actively work together on all topical issues of mutual interest for Azerbaijan and Russia.

As a result of the meeting, a number of documents were signed on increasing bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism and culture, as well as on the development of checkpoints and road infrastructure across the Azerbaijani-Russian state border.
