Air France-KLM has appointed Olivier Mazzucchelli at the head of its low-cost company Transavia France, replacing Nathalie Stubler who will now devote herself to the decarbonization of the group, the Franco-Dutch airline announced on Wednesday.

Olivier Mazzucchelli, who until now was president of the regional Air France company HOP!, after having held various positions within the Air France group since 2000, will take over from Nathalie Stubler, president of Transavia France since 2016, on January 16. , said Air France-KLM in a press release.

A company specializing in short and medium-haul flights to Europe and the Mediterranean basin, Transavia, which also operates domestic French routes, is one of the spearheads of Air France-KLM’s development. Its fleet should increase to 71 planes by next summer, i.e. a virtual doubling in four years against a backdrop of renewed dynamism in tourist destinations after the Covid-19 and buoyant winds for low-cost in Europe.

“Hinge Moment”

The nomination of Olivier Mazzucchelli intervenes “at a pivotal time as the company prepares for the entry into service of the Airbus A320neo family in 2023“, remarked the director general of Air France-KLM, Benjamin Smith, quoted in the press release. Transavia operates Boeing 737-800 NG, the generation preceding that of the 737 MAX. Air France-KLM ordered no less than 100 Airbus A320 and A321neo at the end of 2021, a giant contract with acquisition rights for 60 additional aircraft, in particular to grow the Transavia France fleet.

Nathalie Stubler, who began her career in 1992 with Air Inter, will become “special advisor on the group’s decarbonization strategyand will report directly to Benjamin Smith, who points out that “decarbonization, and more generally our ability to conduct our business in a more sustainable way, is one of the main strategic challengesof the company.

Air France-KLM, which, like the entire aviation sector, is under pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, is aiming for a 30% drop in its CO2 emissions per passenger-kilometre, the sector’s benchmark unit, in 2030 compared to 2019. The group wants 10% of its fuel to be of renewable origin by the end of the decade and concluded the first contracts to this end at the end of October.

Olivier Mazzucchelli will be replaced at the head of HOP! by Hervé Boury, until now deputy general manager of Transavia, in charge of operations, according to Air France-KLM.
