A one-year-old baby, with the umbilical cord still attached to him, was found this (Thursday) afternoon inside a cardboard box in the Old City of Acre. Police officers who arrived at the scene called the welfare officials, and the baby was transferred after an MDA examination to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya for further treatment. The police opened an investigation.
The Municipality of Acre stated: “A two-day-old baby was found dumped in a cardboard box near the Museum of Underground Prisoners in Old Acre. The baby was discovered by a citizen who passed by and called the police. The baby was fully conscious and was being examined at the Galilee Medical Center. Employees of the Welfare Administration of the Acre Municipality are accompanying the case and in connection Right in front of the hospital. The security department in the municipality is currently scanning the security cameras in order to track down those who dumped the baby.”
The hospital in Nahariya said: “The baby who was brought from Acre to the Galilee Medical Center has been hospitalized in the preterm ward. He is undergoing various tests and a condition assessment.”
The director of labor, Dr. Verd Fleischer-Shafer: “The baby was brought in in good condition, fully clothed and conscious, with a normal body temperature. Based on his blood sugar, it appears he has been fed. Since we don’t know anything about his mother or the period of pregnancy, we are conducting tests, which at the moment seem normal.” According to Dr. Fleischer-Shafer, the baby is two to three days old.
