The United Nations delegation came to learn about the situation prevailing in Burkina Faso, particularly the security crisis and the resulting consequences. With frankness and realism, members of the government presented the situation marked by developments due to the commitment of fighting forces on the ground and the general mobilization of the Burkinabè people behind the authorities to defeat terrorism.

While welcoming the actions of the United Nations for the benefit of the Burkinabè populations, the government side expressed expectations such as the adoption of resolutions by the United Nations, in the sense of mobilizing the international community behind Burkina Faso, and lifting the blockages to enable the country to acquire the equipment necessary to win the war that has been imposed on it.

Referring to the case of Barbara MANZI whose actions led to her expulsion from Burkina Faso territory in December 2022, the government invites the United Nations to frank collaboration, by deploying UN personnel to Burkina Faso who do not run counter to the objectives from the country.

The representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel said he had taken note of all the concerns raised by the government side. He is committed to reporting to the Secretary-General and his UN colleagues so that Burkina Faso is a priority for the international community.

Well before the direct exchanges between the two parties, religious communities were invited to come and give their reading of the national situation and express their expectations of the United Nations.

Representatives of the Burkina-Niger Episcopal Conference, the Federation of Evangelical Churches and Missions and the Muslim community all recognized the daily efforts made by the current authorities for the return of peace and security. They want to see greater commitment from the UN alongside the government, in terms of territorial security, humanitarian and food assistance, education and health.
