Indeed, the opening of this pavilion at the Biennale is part of the dynamic positioning of Benin in the circuit of the world artistic scene and the emergence of the creative economy. More than a simple exhibition, Benin’s participation in this international meeting is part of a global and ambitious strategy of the government, aiming to develop the entire artistic ecosystem, from the identification of talents to their revelation in the world. In the presence of eminent professionals from the art world, members of the Beninese delegation, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Organizing Committee and the curatorial team, as well as artists exhibited in the pavilion, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts and Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, President of the Biennale, cut the ribbon, in the presence of the General Delegate of the pavilion, José PLIYA and the curator Azu NWAGBOGU.

What the minister says: In his speech, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts underlined that “the slogan dedicated to this pavilion, “Everything Precious is fragile”, resonates as a call for vigilance and recognition of the richness of our initiative, bearer of promise and future. » The artists Ishola Akpo, Moufouli Bello, Chloé Quenum and Romuald Hazoumè, after several months of reflection and creation, present through this slogan, an exploration of African and singularly Beninese feminism, highlighting four themes: spirituality, Vodun, the Amazon and the Slave Trade. This event, he specifies, not only marks a new era for Beninese artists, but also announces the start of a fruitful collaboration between the government, civil society and the private sector, in order to promote our cultural heritage and stimulate , from Benin, the creative economy in Africa and in the world. “This is why I would like to invite you to maintain with us this flame around our Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. », Launched Minister ABIMBOLA.

Between the lines : The Benin Pavilion, thus open to the public, extends over an area of ​​320 m2, at Artiglierie, in the Arsenale. Visitors are expected from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., from April 20 to November 24, 2024. During this time, the exhibition “Revelation! Contemporary art from Benin” continues, heading to the Conciergerie de Paris from October 2024.
