For this, attention is focused on building an environment that effectively promotes sustainability with high quality, consistent and comparable information, and that allows public policy makers and investors to make decisions based on data from this reality.
In addition to investors, the consumer public is willing to pay more for products and services committed to social, environmental and ethical responses. Accounting professionals are allies in demonstrating this practice, ensuring that companies operate responsibly.
The rule-implementing bodies are seeking to implement the Sustainability Disclosure Standards to improve financial reporting and accountability in the Latin America and Caribbean Region, thereby maximizing the business environment and, consequently, sustainable development. of the countries.
The Brazilian Committee on Sustainability Pronouncements (CBPS), of which the Federal Accounting Council (CFC) is a member, is one of the new fronts that works with this mission.
The CBPS operations coordinator, Zulmir Breda, believes that one of the ways to reduce the gaps in the understanding of sustainability reports is to promote awareness and training of professionals.
“The Committee is working, with several institutions, to arrive at technical sustainability pronouncements so that Brazilian regulators can adopt them in whole or in part. It also envisions the elaboration of a broad training and qualification program for all the interested public. ”.
Breda adds that “we want to reach not only those professionals who are part of the entities that make up the CBPS, but mainly the other users, stakeholders of this information, customers, suppliers and investors”.
The president of the Federal Accounting Council, Aécio Dantas, also reflects on sustainability for this contemporary role of accountants.
“Accounting professionals play an important role in favor of society and the business world, aiming at sustainability. And they can contribute to building the bases of global sustainability information”, evaluates Dantas.
