jpnn.comJAYAPURA – The 2024 simultaneous elections to elect the President and Vice President, as well as DPR members, have ended after the KPU announced the results on Wednesday (20/3) evening.

Simultaneous elections will be held again throughout Indonesia in November 2024, with regional head elections on the agenda.

For Papua, this is the first regional election that will be held after the region was expanded into four provinces.

After it was expanded, many people still asked which figures would be candidates for regional head in Papua, especially at the provincial level where there would be a new governor.

Executive Secretary of the Campus Coalition for Democracy, Elvira Rumkabu SIP, M.St, views that the Pua Regional Election is a momentum for the community to determine who they will trust to be governor and deputy governor until 2029.

The first criterion he proposed was a figure who was sensitive to the conditions of society from all aspects, from the economic to the social.

“If I have learned from previous experiences, whoever is elected or elected by the people, in my opinion, must first have an understanding of the contexts and dynamics of the conflict in Papua,” he said in Jayapura, Wednesday (20/3).

“I think it’s very important because apart from understanding that there is conflict, there is a context and dynamics of conflict that continues to occur, not only armed conflict but also development problems, marginalization of groups, especially indigenous Papuans. For example, someone who has understanding, “Understanding that there is a priority problem like this in Papua, that’s the first thing,” continued Elvira.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri is one of the names predicted to compete in the upcoming Papua Governor Election.
