US actor Ryan O’Neal, who became world famous with the romantic drama “Love Story”, is dead. The actor, also known for his decades-long turbulent relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett, died “peacefully” on Friday at the age of 82, his son said Patrick O’Neal on the online platform Instagram. His father was incredibly generous, funny, good-looking and charming – a “deadly combination”.

The former amateur boxer had his big breakthrough in 1970 with “Love Story” by director Arthur Hiller and was nominated for an Oscar. The film is about the love of a student from a rich family and a student from a humble background who dies at the end of the drama.

Married two times, divorced twice

Two years later, O’Neal starred opposite Barbra Streisand in the comedy “Is What, Doc?” by director Peter Bogdanovich, then in 1973 alongside his daughter Tatum O’Neal in Bogdanovich’s hit film “Paper Moon”, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.

In 1975, the Los Angeles-born actor played the lead role in the historical film “Barry Lyndon” under legendary director Stanley Kubrick. Between 2005 and 2017 he appeared in the series “Bones”.

O’Neal has been married twice and divorced twice. At the end of the 1970s he began a relationship with fellow actress Fawcett (“Charlie’s Angels”). The liaison ended in 1997 after Fawcett reportedly caught O’Neal in the act with another actress. The two got back together in 2001 and stayed that way until Fawcett’s death in 2009.
