Adam Cole’s Future in Wrestling Uncertain Following Concussion, Says Tony Khan
All Elite Wrestling President offers a somber update on the star’s health and potential return to the ring.
The future of Adam Cole in professional wrestling remains clouded in uncertainty following a recent concussion, according to comments made by All Elite Wrestling (AEW) President Tony khan. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Khan revealed a disheartening outlook regarding Cole’s potential return to the squared circle, acknowledging the severity of the situation and prioritizing the wrestler’s well-being.
Khan described the moment he learned Cole was unwell on the morning of AEW all In Texas as “vrey, very hard,” emphasizing his personal connection to the athlete. “Adam Cole, I love so much,” Khan stated. “I think Adam Cole is such a great wrestler, but also he’s a really good friend.”
The injury comes after Cole overcame a previously career-threatening ankle injury that sidelined him for over a year. His return to the ring was marked by a triumphant run, culminating in becoming the TNT Champion, a “great comeback story” as described by Khan. However, the recurrence of head injuries raises serious concerns. “He’s had injuries, and it’s no secret, some of the injuries he’s experienced have been head injuries,” Khan explained.
While Khan remains open to Cole remaining with AEW in a non-wrestling capacity, the possibility of a full return to the ring appears increasingly remote. “I think it would have to be the right situation for Adam to wrestle again,” Khan conceded. He added that he wants Cole to feel comfortable with the demands of weekly travel and appearances, but reiterated that a role within the company will always be available.
Cole has already demonstrated versatility beyond in-ring performance, having served as a commentator and show host. “He’s great for that. He’s a great talent. He could be involved in a lot of things,” Khan noted. However, any decision regarding Cole’s future will be made with utmost caution, prioritizing his safety and long-term health. “But anything involving head injuries or serious injuries, I always want to look at it and evaluate, does this make sense, and is there an opportunity to do this safely, where it’s going to be a good outcome for everybody.”
Since stepping away from the ring at AEW All In: Texas, Cole has maintained a low profile on social media, primarily focusing on video games. Despite this,he continues to co-host All Elite Arcade with Evil Uno.
The injury occurred during the AEW All In pay-per-view event in London, England, on August 27, 2023. Cole was competing in a match against MJF for the AEW World Championship when he sustained the concussion. The match ended abruptly when the referee stopped the contest after noticing Cole appeared disoriented. MJF was declared the winner, retaining his title.
Khan stated that Cole was promptly taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. He has been cleared to travel back to the united States, but remains under medical observation. Khan has not provided a specific timeline for Cole’s recovery, emphasizing that his health is the top priority.
ultimately, Cole’s future in wrestling is uncertain. While Khan hopes to keep him involved with AEW, a
