Snowboardcrosser Eva Adamczyková returned to the podium in the World Cup. Less than a week after falling in the quarter-finals in Sierra Nevada, she finished second in Cortina d’Ampezzo today. In the final, she was not enough for the British Charlotte Bankes, who finished 17 hundredths of a second earlier.

Reigning world champion Adamczyková had to fight a lot from the beginning on the relatively short track after the seventh place in the qualification. She led for a long time in the quarter-finals, but then her opponents caught up with her and in the end she narrowly defended the second place in the progression ahead of the Australian Mia Cliftová. In the semi-finals, on the other hand, she attacked from the back positions and gradually worked her way up to first place.

“In the semi-final, I didn’t get off to a good start, but thanks to the fact that there was a lot to export here and the track was short, I overtook them at a completely different speed,” she said in a recording for the media.

In the grand final, she got off to the best start again and built up a lead. However, she lost it and in the final battle the three riders were not enough for the 2021 world champion Bankes. “Charlotte really did quite well. She even tapped me a little from behind on the board, I was surprised that it jerked. It probably couldn’t have been done extra better, I’m glad it turned out this way,” said Adamczyková.

She held off 2018 PyeongChang Olympic champion Michela Moioli from Italy. “A great race. I’m glad that I got back right after last weekend, when I broke down,” praised the thirty-year-old Czech competitor.

Adamczyková, who entered the season later due to participation in a televised dance competition, was on the podium for the fourth time out of six starts this year. The Olympic champion from Sochi 2014 emulated the second places from Gudauri and the first race in Sierra Nevada. Her only victory in the current year of the SP remains the January success from Svaté Morice. In the overall standings, she improved by two places to fourth place.

Radek Houser and Kryštof Choura also competed in the elimination races today under artificial lighting, both of them were eliminated in the round of 16. Houser fared better, holding on to the lead position for a long time, but lost to the Frenchman Julien Tomas in the finish line. Choura was fourth in his round of 16.

Canadian Eliot Grondin scored his fifth win this season, increasing his lead in the World Cup. The American Jake Vedder was a close second. The king of this season Eliot Grondin from Canada won just ahead of the American Jake Vedder. Australian Jarryd Hughes finished third.

The Snowboardcross World Cup will continue next week in Montafon, Austria.
