This inauguration took place on the sidelines of the 44th session of the Executive Council and the 37th Summit of the AU, during a grandiose ceremony in the presence of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of African countries, the Vice-President of the Commission of AU, Commissioners of the Union, senior officials of the pan-African organization, several personalities and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as the media.

Installed in the large exhibition hall at the AU headquarters, this Fountain reflects the authenticity of Moroccan craftsmanship through its flagship zellige.

It is thanks to the art of zellige, complex patterns of cut tiles, that Moroccan artisans have achieved their most sophisticated expression of precision, spatial geometry and aesthetics, underlined MM. Mohammed Kamal Bedraoui, project architect, and Zouhair Kabbaj of “Kazo designer§build” responsible for the creation of this masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship.

This is how this fountain represents the genesis of this craft codified by color shapes and materials such as wood and sculpted plaster, chiseled and perforated brass, zellige and the presence of water which winks “eye on spirituality, cleanliness and serenity,” they noted in a statement to MAP.

The Fountain erected in front of the Great Nelson Mandela Hall is autonomous in that it benefits from photovoltaic panels powered by batteries.

We opted for a green solution which requires no other energy than solar, underlines the project architect.

On the artisanal side, the choice of materials for this Fountain is linked to the representation of the genesis of the craftsmanship of sculpted plaster, carved wood, chiseled brass, the diffusion of light, zellige with all its shapes and colors which are a bit like codes in Moroccan craftsmanship linked to places, moments, periods retracing the heritage of the craftsmanship of the Kingdom which dates back several centuries, they highlighted.

Morocco, land of ancestral traditions, is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship. This rich and diverse cultural heritage perpetuates age-old know-how which is expressed through a multitude of artistic crafts, they highlighted.

Moroccan craftsmanship embodies excellence and creativity which contributes to the preservation of Moroccan identity, they stressed.
