AEW’s Hurt Syndicate: MVP on Potential New Members & MJF’s Failed Attempt

by Liam O'Connor Sports Editor

The Hurt Syndicate, the formidable faction currently making its mark on All Elite Wrestling, is once again considering expansion. Led by the veteran and calculating MVP, the group is actively evaluating young talent, seeking a new member who embodies their ruthless approach to professional wrestling. This comes after a previous attempt to bolster their ranks with MJF ultimately proved unsuccessful, leaving the Syndicate hesitant but not entirely deterred from adding another name to their roster.

MVP recently discussed potential candidates during an appearance on the “Battleground” podcast, highlighting two AEW wrestlers who possess the qualities he believes are essential for membership: “Jet” Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. The conversation underscores the Syndicate’s focus on not just in-ring ability, but likewise a specific mindset – a willingness to embrace physicality and understand the business side of professional wrestling. The group’s current lineup, known for its aggressive tactics and strategic dominance, is looking for someone who can seamlessly integrate into their established dynamic.

“The first person that comes to mind would be ‘Jet’ [Kevin] Knight,” MVP stated on the podcast. “He’s a young guy that I consider definitely has all the tools to be a big game player in the future. Kyle Fletcher is another stand-out young talent that I see great things in his future. He’s got all the tools to be a player… Both of those guys have the prerequisite skill set and ability to be in the Hurt Syndicate. They dress exceptionally well, they’re not afraid of inflicting extreme violence on an opponent, but they’re young, so they would need some grooming and a little educating to teach them the best ways to head about it, and to understand at the end of the day, it’s a business. Don’t craft it personal. Don’t get emotional.”

Knight and Fletcher: Current Status and Potential

Knight currently holds championship gold in AEW, as one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions alongside “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Mistico. They secured the titles at AEW Revolution in 2026, defeating Fletcher and his Don Callis Family, a victory that further elevated Knight’s profile within the company. Fletcher, known for his power and intensity, represents a different kind of potential recruit, bringing a more established presence to the table. Both athletes, according to MVP, possess the foundational elements necessary to thrive under the Syndicate’s banner.

The potential addition of either Knight or Fletcher would represent a strategic investment in the future of the Hurt Syndicate. The group, while currently successful, recognizes the need to continually evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of AEW. Bringing in younger talent allows them to cultivate a new generation of performers who embody their core values and can contribute to their long-term dominance.

The MJF Experiment and Lessons Learned

MVP was candid about the group’s previous attempt to expand, specifically their pursuit of AEW World Champion MJF. The experience, he admitted, left the Syndicate wary of adding members without a thorough assessment of their character and commitment. “We are currently discussing adding a new member,” MVP explained. “We tried it with MJF, it didn’t go well because he just didn’t make the cut, he wasn’t good enough, he doesn’t have the drive, he doesn’t have the internal capability for true violence, he’s a huckster… So that kind of soured us for a little bit about trying to add somebody new, but we think we do need a little youthfulness, we need a youthful spark, so it could be about time to add a new member.”

The assessment of MJF, known for his often-controversial and theatrical persona, highlights the Syndicate’s emphasis on genuine aggression and a willingness to engage in physical confrontations. MVP dismissed MJF’s recent violent actions, such as his blood-soaked death match against “Hangman” Adam Page at Revolution, as relying on theatrics rather than authentic intensity. “These are my weapons right here,” MVP said, gesturing to his fists. “I could do more damage with these than MJF could do with a syringe… Beat somebody up, I dare you. Beat somebody up! Get that same kind of reaction inflicting extreme violence on someone without weapons. Bobby Lashley can do it, Shelton Benjamin can do it, and I can do it… At the end of the day, I like to see people go out there with their physical talents and abilities and impose their will on an opponent. I don’t need a cinderblock or a syringe to do it.”

Cedric Alexander’s Path and the Syndicate’s Direction

The Hurt Syndicate’s history includes a previous iteration with a fourth member, Cedric Alexander, who had been part of the group during its time in WWE. However, Alexander ultimately chose not to rejoin the faction when it resurfaced in AEW. Alexander publicly explained his decision, citing reasons that remain undisclosed but clearly influenced his decision to pursue a different path. This further underscores the Syndicate’s selective approach to recruitment, prioritizing alignment with their core principles above all else.

The Hurt Syndicate’s current focus on identifying and cultivating young talent suggests a long-term strategy for maintaining their influence in AEW. While the memory of the MJF situation remains a cautionary tale, the group appears determined to find a new member who can not only contribute to their success but also embody the values that define the Hurt Syndicate. The coming weeks and months will likely see increased scrutiny of Knight and Fletcher, as MVP and the Syndicate assess their potential to become the next integral part of their dominant force.

As of now, no official timeline has been announced for the potential addition of a new member. However, the ongoing discussions and MVP’s public comments indicate that a decision could be made in the near future. Fans can expect further developments to unfold on AEW programming and through future appearances by MVP on podcasts and other media outlets.
