/ After a government decision to raise the prices of “improved and premium” gasoline, Iraq fell several places in the list of the cheapest countries in the world with gasoline prices, reaching rank 20 after it was ranked 14th in the world, while Iran topped the countries with the cheapest price, reaching $0.029 per liter.

According to data from the Global Petroleum Press website, reviewed by Agency, Libya came in second place with $0.031 per liter, then Venezuela with $0.035 per liter, Egypt fourth with $0.286 per liter, Kuwait fifth with $0.341 per liter, and Algeria. Sixth, $0.341 per litre, Angola seventh, $0.360 per litre, Turkmenistan eighth, $0.429 per liter, Malaysia ninth, $0.431 per liter, while Nigeria came in tenth place, $0.525 per litre.

Ten places behind Nigeria, and according to the classification, Iraq ranked 20th at a price of $0.694 per litre, while the UAE ranked 25th at a price of $0.825 per litre, while Syria ranked 34th at a price of $0.999 per liter, while China ranked 64th with a price of 1.201. Dollar per liter, and Monaco and Hong Kong ranked last with the cheapest gasoline prices in the world.

This decline comes after a government decision was issued to raise the prices of improved gasoline to 850 dinars and premium gasoline to 1,250 dinars. This led to popular discontent in rejection of the government’s decisions and parliamentary demands to intervene to prevent the implementation of the decision.

Although the price of “regular” gasoline in Iraq remains at 450 dinars, it was not taken into consideration in the international classifications, due to its poor quality, according to observers.

Government advisors and observers say that the decision comes within the framework of a broad plan taken by the government to reduce traffic congestion, but it has sparked anger and complaint from drivers in particular and citizens in general, because of its economic repercussions that may lead to high prices in general in the country.
