Mumbai: BCCI top brass says MS Dhoni cannot be part of teams in foreign T20 leagues unless he retires from IPL With the IPL franchises owning teams in the upcoming T20 leagues in South Africa and the UAE, the hope of seeing Dhoni in the role of a mentor is gone.
“The law is clear. No one, including domestic players, can be part of other leagues without retiring from all formats. If anyone is interested in playing in the upcoming T20 leagues, it can only be done after ending all ties with the BCCI. Chennai Super Kings cannot play IPL if they are part of a foreign league. If you want to be a part of it, you have to retire from IPL first,’ The Indian Express reported quoting the words of the BCCI top brass. Dhoni retired from international cricket earlier and now plays only in IPL for CSK.
T20 leagues are coming up in South Africa and UAE. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have teams in the South African T20 League. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders also have teams in the UAE’s International T20 League. With this, there were rumors that Dhoni might join the team owned by CSK in the South African T20 League as a mentor. But the position of the board is that players who cooperate with BCCI in any way will not be allowed to be part of foreign leagues.
