Yesterday, Nelson Cabrera announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40. Through a statement, the footballer pointed out that this decision was made after the sensitive death of his father. During his career, the Paraguayan nationalized Bolivian played for Bolívar, Always Ready, Nacional Potosí and was also part of the national team. In the latter, he had the misfortune of being poorly included in the matches against Peru and Chile for the Qualifiers.
“It is officially time to announce my retirement as a professional footballer,” Cabrera said in a statement published on his official Instagram account. “Many feelings invade me, but my dad’s departure made me rethink many things in my life, and the strength to continue playing is no longer the same as before,” he added.
“In any case, I could not say goodbye without first expressing my gratitude to God for all the blessings received throughout my career. There are so many things I could say, but in the end it all boils down to the gratitude and happiness I feel for having managed to fulfill my childhood dreams. Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey,” he noted.
The player assured that he will continue to be linked to football. “Anyway, this first part is over, but there remains a second where from another facet I will try to enjoy every moment to the fullest while maintaining the values and principles that were instilled in me and that define me. I retire calmly, in peace and with a smile. One last thing… Dad, from heaven I hope you are proud of your son.”
