With the AIADMK General Committee meeting scheduled for July 11, the party’s co-ordinator in the Election Commission of India, O.K. Panneerselvam has filed the petition.
Following the resurgence of the single leadership slogan in the AIADMK, party coordinator O.K. Supporters of Panneer Selvam and co-coordinator Edappadi Palanisamy split into two factions and clashed. Following this, both OBS and EPS met and consulted with their supporters to show their strength. Out of a total of 75 district secretaries, more than 68 supported EPS. The OPS had the support of only 6 district secretaries.
In this context, the AIADMK general body meeting was held at Vanakaram in Chennai yesterday. The general body meeting was held on the orders of the High Court that no new resolutions should be passed. Both OBS and EPS came to the meeting surrounded by their supporters. Heavy police security was put in place as clashes could erupt between the two sides. EPS supporters chanted slogans against the OBS at this public meeting. Nevertheless, the OBS sat quietly on stage.
Speaking at the time, former minister C.V. Shanmugam said, “Atimu should reject dual leadership and form single leadership.” The OBS and its supporters left the crowd in protest. Following this, it was announced that the next General Assembly would be convened on July 11 and a decision on a single leadership would be taken at that meeting.
OBS Petition
In this context, a petition was filed today on behalf of the OPS in the Election Commission of India seeking an injunction restraining the meeting of this General Committee. The petition states, “It has been decided to convene a general meeting on July 11 without consulting me, the party’s co-ordinator. It is against party rules. Therefore, this general body should be banned from convening.”
