On the morning of Thursday, March 21, content creator Aida Victoria Merlano was sentenced by the Superior Court to 13 years and 10 months in prison for being co-author of the crime of use of minors and an accomplice to her mother’s escape.

The young woman is accused of the events that occurred on October 1, 2019, due to the escape of the former congresswoman, who was accused of buying votes on the Caribbean coast, according to the National Electoral Council.

The ‘influencer’ was accused of providing a briefcase with necessary items at the dental office, located in the north of Bogotá, where Merlano fled. Initially, she was sentenced in September 2022, to seven years and five months.

However, the decision was ratified and the magistrate pointed out that the young woman, 23 years old, used her brother, 17 years old, so that, in a suitcase, “they carried the rope so that her mother could jump from the window.”

Furthermore, he added: “And the Prosecutor’s Office did not appeal that, which is why the court allowed, despite sentencing me to 166 months in prison, that I continue with the process in freedom until the appeal is answered. We continue to believe in justice and we are going to fight until the end.”
