“Ready to welcome patients and their families”

The Ukrainian people need help. AIL opens its doors to patients with blood cancer and offers hospitality, assistance and medical care to refugees suffering from haematological diseases and their families. The Association announces the launch of a fundraiser for Ukrainian patients undergoing treatment and who have remained at home who in this moment of absolute emergency and desperation have difficulty in receiving the essential therapies they need.

In the wake of its many years of tradition, always alongside the most vulnerable, the Italian Association against leukemia, lymphomas and myeloma is ready through the 82 provincial sections and blood centers to offer health care, psycho-social support and welcome Ukrainian hematological patients, adults and children, who are already in our country and those that are on the way. AIL also announces the launch of a fundraising initiative to support patients unable to leave Ukraine. AIL launches a heartfelt appeal to all its supporters, volunteers and citizens who have been close to the Association for more than half a century, so that once again they show generosity and solidarity to guarantee on this occasion the continuity of care, the safety of patients in hospitals in Ukraine and to provide for medical supplies, chemotherapy treatments and the procurement of drugs that are currently in short supply.

Reason: AIL Emergency Ukraine

It is certainly not the first time that AIL has welcomed patients from populations in serious difficulty. In the past, and still every day, patients from the conflicting territories, such as Syria, the Balkans, Iraq, Belarus and Ukraine itself, are assisted in the hematological therapy centers and in the structures managed by the Association.

AIL’s mission has always been to support haematological patients and their loved ones.

We cannot remain helpless in the face of such an imposing and close humanitarian emergency, let us join our hearts and our prayers with those of the entire Ukrainian population – declares Pino Toro, AIL National President – our condemnation of war is total and unanimous. In the meantime, however, we must act for assisting haematological patients who are arriving in Italy and patients who are being treated in Ukraine. AIL with all its professionalism and skills and, through the work of its volunteers, provides all possible hospitality and care to help ensure continuity of care for Ukrainian patients.”

Thousands of Ukrainian haematological patients are in danger, many of them in urgent need of assistance and medical care that in these hours arrive with difficulty in the cities at war. AIL provides its volunteers, lodging houses, home care, psycho-social support, transport services and economic aid. The donations collected through the AIL initiative will be used to purchase drugs, chemotherapy, instruments and medical devices to be sent, through protected channels, to patients, hospitals and in close synergy with the humanitarian associations operating in the field.
