Earlier, Jadeja scored an unbeaten 175 to lead India to a huge total. Rishabh’s 96 helped India reach the target on the first day. R Ashwin (61), Hanuma Vihari (58) and Virat Kohli (45) were the other notable contributors. Lasith Embuldenia took two wickets for Sri Lanka. Kohli, who played his 100th Test of his career, also crossed the 8000-run milestone.

Jadeja in bowling too

Jadeja dismissed Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne (28), Niroshan Dickwella (2), Suranga Lakmal (0), Vishwa Fernando (0) and Lahiru Kumara (0). The last five players did not even see a double. Nissanka remained unbeaten on 61 runs. Lahiru Thirimanne (17) and Dhananjaya D’Silva (1) were dismissed by Ashwin. Jaspreet Bumra took the wickets of Angelo Mathews (22) and Charith Asalanka (29). Jadeja’s century

It was Jadeja’s day in Mohili. He scored 228 balls. He had 17 fours and three sixes in his innings. Jadeja was involved in three centuries. Jadeja’s century was also a tribute to cricket legend Shane Warne, who passed away yesterday. Jadeja was a member of the Rajasthan Royals, which Vaughn led in the first IPL. Jaddu put up a 130-run stand with Ashwin. Ashwin scored 61 runs with the help of eight boundaries. Ashwin also took the first wicket that India lost today. Ashwin caught wicketkeeper Dickwella off Suranga Lakmal. Jayant Yadav returned to the crease with two runs. But Jadeja teamed up with Shami to take India past the 550 mark.

Counter attack of the ball

Rishabh once again came to the rescue of India with a counter attack. After Kohli’s return, the ball reached the crease in fifth place over Shreyas Iyer. The goal was to counter the attack of left-arm spinner Embuldenia, who has already taken two wickets. With the ball attacking, Sri Lanka lost their rhythm. Confused about how to prepare the field. Meanwhile, they were able to send Iyer (27) back. Dhananjaya D’Silva’s ball caught in front of the wicket. Iyer returned with a 53-run knock. Jadeja then reached the crease. Both left-armers watered down the Sri Lankan bowlers. The duo added 104 runs. But Suranga Lakmal did not allow the ball to complete the century. He bowled the ball at 96. Before the end of the first day, Sri Lanka took the desired wicket.

Start with frustration

Rohit Sharma disappointed in his debut Test as captain. Rohit got off to a great start. Six boundaries were confident. But Suranga Lakmal was caught in the final leg in an attempt to pull Kumara’s bounce. Rohit added 52 with Mayank for the opening wicket. Mayank was soon caught in front of the wicket. The player was sent off by Embuldenia. Later, Kohli and Vihari added 90 runs. Meanwhile, Vihari completed his half-century. Five fours were born from his bat. Soon after, Kohli was bowled. Embuldenia beat Kohli in a special Test. Soon after, Vihari returned to the dressing room. Bowled by Vishwa Fernando. Pant-Shreyas and Pant-Jadeja combined for two wickets in a row to help India.

Collie with the legends

Kohli scored 8000 runs in Tests when he scored 38 against Sri Lanka. Kohli is the sixth Indian to achieve this feat. Sachin Tendulkar (154 innings), Rahul Dravid (157 innings), Virender Sehwag (160), Sunil Gavaskar (166), Virat Kohli (169) and VVS Laxman (201) have all crossed the 8000 mark in the past. Kohli becomes only second player in the world to cross the 100-run mark in Test cricket. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting also crossed the 8000 mark in the 100th Test. Ponting’s achievement came in 2006 in Sydney.

Three spinners

India will have three spinners on the pitch supporting the spinners in Mohali. R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav are the spinners in the team. Pacers Mohammad Shami and Jaspreet Bumra also joined the team. Pujara, who was dropped from the team due to poor form, was replaced by Hanuma Vihari at number three. Shreyas Iyer returns to replace Ajinkya Rahane Apart from Rohit and Kohli, Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant are the other batsmen in the team.
