This is a rare glimpse, albeit public and orchestrated, of the list of cars in the private collection of Akio Toida (“Morizo”) – which Toyota gave to the world on the sidelines of the main dramas of the Tokyo Motor Show.
“The Tokyo Motor Show is a festival where car lovers can surround themselves with cars and smiles.” With these words, Morizo addressed attendees during his New Year greetings on the first day of the 2024 Tokyo Motor Show at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.
No longer the president of Toyota or the chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Morizo participated as simply “an ordinary guy who loves cars”. In practice, he is very far from being an “ordinary guy”.

One highlight was the special stage set up at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing booth to showcase six of Morrisseau’s favorite cars. In addition to its Century GRMN and GR Corolla, there were several cars not usually seen at Toyota. At least one doesn’t have a Toyota emblem on the grill. And… a resounding absence of what? An electric car of course.
