BOLZANO. 24 hours after the outbreak of the large fire yesterday (8 May) at the Alpitronic in Bolzano, the firefighters of the fire are still on site to monitor the situation and extinguish any outbreaks. About fifteen firefighters kept watch all night to intervene promptly if the flames flared up again. The fire destroyed a warehouse currently empty due to renovation works. Part of the structure is at risk of collapse and must be demolished with bulldozers. In the meantime, the Bolzano Prosecutor’s Office, as usual in these cases, has opened a file for so-called acts not constituting crimes while awaiting the report from the permanent fire brigade on the causes of the fire.
According to initial hypotheses, the flames could have started during maintenance work on the roof, which is two football fields in size. Sparks could have come from a machine which would then have started the fire of highly flammable insulation material. The administrative and research staff will work from home in the next few days, while the production department, saved from the fire by the firefighters, will now be cleaned up and then resume its activity.
