“Amazigh, an essential component of Moroccan identity”, theme of a photographic exhibition in Casablanca

As part of the celebrations of the Moroccan people of the new Amazigh year 2974, institutionalized as a national holiday and official public holiday, this exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of the Culture Sector, retraces a series of events, from Royal speeches and decisions consolidating the place of Amazigh as an important component of Moroccan identity.

In a statement to MAP, the Casablanca-Settat regional communications director, Mohamed Rehane, indicated that this exhibition takes place this year in a special context for all Moroccans because from now on, January 14 has become, by Royal decision, day official paid national holiday, like the 1st Moharram of the year of the Hegira and New Year’s Day of the Gregorian calendar.

This cultural event looks back at the different stages of the process of promoting the Amazigh language since Ajdir’s historic speech which announced the establishment of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), he said, noting that this exhibition highlights 28 paintings distributed along several axes which reflect the evolution of Amazigh culture in Morocco, namely: Amazigh in the Constitution and Moroccan laws, Moroccan media and Amazigh, and an overview of the history of Amazigh journalism.

For her part, the regional director of Culture Casablanca-Settat, Hafida Khouyi, announced that this exhibition is intended to be a consecration of the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language, thus testifying to the cultural diversity of the Kingdom. It highlights photos immortalizing ceremonies, Royal appointments and extracts from Royal speeches concerning the promotion of the Amazigh language.

“These celebrations experienced by several cultural centers across the Kingdom reflect the ministry’s interest in Amazigh culture as an essential part of Moroccan identity,” she rejoiced, noting that these events testify to the he rise of Amazigh culture as a cultural and heritage component rooted in the diverse history of the Kingdom of Morocco.
