India’s e-commerce giants opened their annual festive shopping events in October 2026, drawing shoppers from metropolitan areas and smaller towns alike. Both platforms logged high early traffic as buyers seized on promotional pricing, bank discounts, and instalment offers. Amazon India recorded a 100 per cent year-on-year increase in products ordered during its opening, with visitors crossing 440 million in the early phase of the sale according to Press Trust of India coverage. Flipkart reported robust user activity, noting 6.3 million concurrent users in a single minute during the opening hour of its sale based on company disclosures. Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President at Amazon India, stated that early trends from the event exceeded the most optimistic expectations of the company.
Premium Electronics and Smartphone Demand
Demand concentrated heavily around premium consumer technology and high-end smartphones. Sales of premium Android smartphones rose 70 per cent year-on-year on Amazon as retail analysts detailed, while Flipkart positioned flagship devices such as the Apple iPhone 17 starting at an effective price of Rs 86,999 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 5G from Rs 55,299 according to commercial listings. High-performance laptops also drew widespread comparison shopping across both platforms as consumer technology desks reported.
Platform executives noted that buyers approached technology upgrades with deliberate research rather than impulsive bargain hunting. They are doing their own research, taking expert recommendations and making their choices,
Zeba, of Amazon India, told The Economic Times. Zeba also pointed out that artificial intelligence has shifted from a mere marketing buzzword to a fundamental buying criterion influencing device selection.

Large Appliances and Wearables See Massive Volume Surges
Beyond personal gadgets, large home appliances and quick delivery networks experienced unprecedented movement. Amazon reported that home entertainment sales reached 77 times normal daily volume, while televisions measuring 55 inches and above accounted for 65 per cent of all TV purchases according to company sales summaries. Premium wearables sold at 80 times their regular daily volume, and large appliances reached 50 times their normal daily pace.
Fulfillment speed emerged as a competitive frontier. Amazon fulfilled orders within minutes across more than 120 cities through its rapid delivery network, while Flipkart Minutes recorded a 3.5-fold increase in order volumes over normal days during its opening hour as startup reporting verified. That speed enabled notable deliveries, including an iPhone 17 handed to a customer in New Delhi in 3.4 minutes during early access media trackers confirmed.
Financing Options Fuel Growth in Non-Metro Markets
Flexible financing options played a decisive role in converting buyer interest into completed purchases. Shoppers utilized equated monthly instalment programmes, bank discounts, and exchange offers extensively. On Flipkart, one in three mobile buyers chose no-cost EMI, and one in four used product exchange offers company data showed. Additional payment promotions included instant card discounts for SBI customers and reward structures through the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card.
Growth extended deeply outside major metropolitan centers. Non-metro markets accounted for approximately 60 per cent of overall traction on Flipkart, while Amazon noted that customers from every Indian pin code placed orders reflecting nationwide digital retail penetration. Individual brand partners also registered massive gains, with Philips products seeing a tenfold surge in demand compared to regular days.

As the shopping events continue, retail analysts note that the initial surge sets a high benchmark for the remainder of the festive trading window.
