Popular saint and inter-classist, icon-star among the most reproduced and implored by endless trails of devotees in every corner of the world, Saint Pio has a thousand faces, in the dense imagination of those who venerate him. But then his frown or serene gaze punctually returns him to what: to a modern sanctity, without frills and trappings, to which he can turn with a brazenly confidential tone.

The work was donated by the San Pio Foundation, a US charitable organization that collects memberships in every environment, from politics to entertainment, with famous actors such as Joe Mantegna and Gay Sinise. The same president, founder and CEO of the Saint Pio Foundation, a well-known opera singer: Luciano Lamonarca, originally from Puglia, but American by adoption.
The sculpture inaugurated yesterday in Piana Romana is almost identical to the one that the same author has created and exhibited a few years ago, again thanks to the foundation of San Pio, in Little Italy. And according to Lamonarca today it is among the most visited American artistic symbols, perhaps among the places with the greatest attractiveness in the United States, frequented by thousands of people every year.
The American delegation wished in particular to pay homage to the pope of Francesco Forgione, Orazio, who emigrated to the USA. Leave Italy as happened to me too – remembers Lamonarca – and like other 3.2 million compatriots who have managed, by moving away from their loved ones and from their own country, to guarantee, through many sacrifices, subsistence and future to their families.
The success of San Pio in the world also confirmed by Anthony Johnson, of Ewtn News, an American Catholic news agency: Our television services dedicated to San Pio regularly attract a very strong audience from North America to the Philippines. How can this be explained? a saint who has always known how to speak to everyone – the mayor of Pietrelcina, Domenico Masone remembers with emotion – and continues to do so now, indeed perhaps even more intensely, recalling to him the requests for help from millions of people around the world.
