A man from upstate New York was forced to part with his unusual pet, Albert the alligator. Local authorities seized the reptile because it was illegally owned by its owner, Tony Cavallaro. The animal was 30 years old.
Police said Tony built a special structure with a swimming pool where his pet lived. The man allowed other people to enter the building and even enjoy the animal without providing any safety measures.
Cavallaro told the media: “I am Albert’s father, he is part of my family.” The man explained that he had a license to own the alligator, but after it expired in 2021 he was unable to renew it.
Experts said that even if the license was up to date, access to such a predator was prohibited. They added that the animal has many health problems.
Albert is now being cared for by a licensed worker, after which the reptile will be transported to a more suitable place to keep it, Nova writes.
