A pink diamond of rare and exceptional quality will go on sale on June 8 in New York (United States), announced this Wednesday the house Sotheby’s, in charge of the auction. These will be organized as part of a special jewelry sales week. The value of the 10.57-carat gemstone has been assessed at $35 million, or just over €32 million.

This is “the highest estimate per carat for a gemstone presented on the market”, said Alexander Eblen, head of jewelry sales for Sotheby’s. This pink diamond with no impurities comes from a mine in Botswana, from where it had been extracted in 2019. The expert estimated that the quality of the precious stone “suffers no comparison”.

The auction house also claimed that this “Eternal Pink” was a better investment than a painting by René Magritte or Andy Warhol. The two highest-priced pink diamonds were sold in Hong Kong. One was sold for $71.2 million in 2017, while the Williamson pink diamond sold for $57.7 million five years later.
