An indictment against a resident of Ashkelon for suspected threats against Matan Kahana

by time news

A resident of Ashkelon in his 50s was arrested this morning (Thursday) on suspicion of threatening the Minister of Religions Matan Kahana. According to the indictment, he called the minister’s office from his cell phone yesterday morning, talked to a bureau employee, and asked her to pass on his remarks to the minister and at that time threatened her with unlawful harm to the minister’s body by saying: “Tell him to stop harming rabbis or rabbis, I tell you “In the end, he will end up like Rabin. Someone will take him down because he hurts rabbis and rabbinates. He just has a dome on his head and he is not religious at all.” The Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court extended his detention until a different decision.

This is not the first time that Kahana’s name has come up in the context of a goal for a particular person. In November, the General Security Service informed Minister of Religious Affairs Matan Kahana that he was raising his security level, and has since been accompanied by a close security guard. The GSS said the announcement came following threats to the minister’s life.

In recent months, Minister Kahana has been widely criticized by many in the religious and ultra-Orthodox sector, against the background of desires to promote the kosher reform and his opposition to the Western Wall outline. As part of the kashrut reform, approved in the Arrangements Law, the kashrut market will be opened to full competition in about a year (1.1.23) so that private entities can grant kashrut. The bodies will receive approval from the Chief Rabbinate’s kosher supervisor, and will be able to act according to their choice according to a kosher standard (standard) to be determined by the Chief Rabbinate Council or according to a standard determined by three rabbis.
