Rotterdam – The Center for Youth and Family (CJG) Rijnmond is organizing vaccination days in the entire Rotterdam-Rijnmond region from Tuesday 7 March to Wednesday 17 May. In Rotterdam that is on April 4, 5 and 6. Children and young people can then get a free shot against serious infectious diseases such as measles, polio, the human papilloma virus and meningococcal disease.

More than 70,000 children and young people from our region will receive an invitation from the RIVM. But even if you have not received an invitation, you can get your injection(s) for free.

All children in the Netherlands up to the age of 18 can get their shots from the National Immunization Program free of charge. This is important, because it prevents serious infectious diseases from occurring. By vaccinating yourself you not only protect yourself, but also others. Children up to and including the age of 9 receive their shot at one of our nearby CJG locations. During the vaccination days, we give the vaccinations to children aged 10 to 18 years.

Who received an invitation?
DTP-BMR: all children born in 2013 who have not yet had their DTP and/or MMR vaccination.
HPV: girls from 2010, 2011 and 2013 and boys from 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2013. But even if you have not received an invitation, you can come and get the HPV jab. This year we offer it for free up to 19 years. You do not have to register for this.
MenACWY: all young people born in 2009. Young people born in 2008 who have not yet had the MenACWY vaccination are also invited to get the vaccination.

Data: Tuesday April 4, Wednesday April 5, Thursday April 6.
Time: From 13:00 – 20:00.
Location: Rotterdam injection location: Rotterdam Ahoy, Ahoyweg 10.

Rozenburg and Hoek van Holland have their own injection location on different dates.

Explanation types of lampreys
DTP and MMR vaccination:
Vaccinate against the most common infectious diseases at a young age such as diphtheria, tetanus, polio (DTP) and mumps, measles and rubella (MMR). These vaccinations are the last of a series that started at baby age. We give this shot to children who have not yet had this vaccination around the age of 9 years.

HPV vaccination:
Since last year, boys and girls can get vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV). An HPV infection can cause six types of cancer of the mouth and throat, penis, anus, vagina, labia and cervix. Infection can occur by having sex with someone who has HPV, but the virus also spreads through the skin and mouth.
Two shots are needed to get adequate protection. Young people over the age of 15 also only need two injections if there is at least 5 months between the two injections. If this is not the case, young people over the age of 15 need three injections. Because the vaccine does not protect against all types of cancer, it remains important that the girls have themselves checked for cervical cancer later, for example by means of the smear test of the national screening programme.

Young adults can also get an HPV vaccination this year
Only in 2023 will all young adults born between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2003 (aged 19 to 26) be given the opportunity to be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV) free of charge by GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond. They can make an appointment via hpvafspraak.nl or call 0800 – 1608

MenACWY Vaccination:
This is the shot against meningococcal disease. This infectious disease is transmissible from person to person and can lead to meningitis, blood poisoning or even death. This usually occurs in healthy young people. The number of cases of illness has increased sharply in recent years, mainly due to type W. Even though the chance of becoming ill due to meningococcal W is currently still very small, vaccinating this group of young people is important to prevent a further increase in the near future. prevent future.
