An internationally awarded photographer, he is also a well-known plastic surgeon in Szeged

At the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agora, once a month, a discussion is held with Szeged’s famous photo artists. On Tuesday, plastic surgeon Huba Bajusz presented his pictures to the audience, since in addition to being an excellent doctor, he is also an AFIAP photographer. As he said, he never needed to take photos for money, he learned this profession for his own fun. And all of this went so well that last year he was able to receive the AFIAP diploma from the International Photographic Association, after 140 of his pictures submitted to various competitions were exhibited in the course of a single year, and 36 of them achieved podium positions.

Hubá Bajusz became known to the world of photography based on his aerial photos.

I have been involved in sports flying since 1983, in 1996 I became a world championship gold medalist in a team. I started taking photos while flying, and the photo book was made from the shots taken in this way in 2016. With the proceeds, I supported Rotary’s charity program, Gift of Life

he told me.

It quickly became clear from the projected photos that they are not just pictures clicked from above, which can now easily be reproduced by anyone with the spread of drones. He consciously composes his shots, in order to make them, as a pilot, he also has to find the perfect flight angle and only 1-2 seconds are available to take the exposure at the right moment. But he has also taken a picture of the Tisza crossing the city center, which due to the lighting conditions can only be seen a few times a year, for a few minutes, and also a picture of nature, which can also only be photographed very rarely, that is, he flew specifically when he knew he had a chance to capture them.

Another passion of Huba Bajusz is nature photography, which was also first linked to aviation. For example, he captured the egrets hatching on Lake Fehér from the air – something like this has not been seen in the last 3 years. And he started choosing ground squirrels as a topic because there were a lot of them at the airport. Later, he worked a lot in Pusztaszer, but he also photographed in Africa, both from Máté Bence’s ambush and from an open terrain vehicle. In addition to the spectacular shots of big game, he also presented a lot of bird photos, about which he said: it is a big challenge to be able to catch them flying in front of you, as well as to take the shot at the ideal moment when the perfectly imagined scene is visible. In the case of waterfowl, it is a particular difficulty that the splashing water drops are clearly visible and that the animal does not move.

It takes a long time to experiment with each species separately, with which shutter speed the picture will be perfect

he told me.

Recently, the plastic surgeon photographer has also learned macro photography: in his own garden, he tickles the rose beetles or annoys the bumblebees so that they fly at the time and in the way that is ideal for the shot. As he said, with every well-executed cube, you can show a detail or a scene that otherwise remains hidden to the human eye.
