The European Championship in the summer will attract thousands of football enthusiasts to pubs and restaurants for public viewing. There is now good news for them.

Football fans can now watch all 51 European Championship games in Germany through live broadcasts at public viewings and in many bars and restaurants. This makes cooperation between Deutsche Telekom and Sky possible. As Telekom announced on Tuesday, MagentaTV will make its EM program for the catering industry and official events available via the pay channel. Telekom broadcasts all 51 games live via its paid streaming offer – including five matches exclusively. The majority of the games can also be seen on free TV on ARD, ZDF and RTL.

In thousands of restaurants, hotels and pubs that are equipped with Sky hardware, up to three MagentaTV channels are played free of charge on the existing Sky receivers. Companies without a Sky subscription can book the channels via Sky.

Anyone who wants to hold an official public viewing event during the European Championship from June 14th to July 14th must apply to UEFA in advance. If the application is successful, Sky will provide the necessary hardware. The organizers can then show all games, including the parallel games that are not free to watch as well as the MagentaTV conference on the crucial third group game days.

“We want to raise the enthusiasm for the home Euro to a new level. Live broadcasts in the catering industry and classic public viewing are essential for this, because these mass phenomena captivate millions of people,” said Arnim Butzen, TV boss Telekom, in a statement. “That’s why we’re very pleased that we’ve found the perfect distribution partner for this in Sky.”
