An “investigation” will be launched at the National Assembly, after an “assassin” launched in the hemicycle by a National Rally deputy during an intervention by the communist Jean-Paul Lecoq on the Middle East, indicated the session president Valérie Rabault, this Tuesday.

“I would like to indicate that when Mr. Jean-Paul Lecoq spoke, the word ‘assassin’ was pronounced, undoubtedly by Caroline Parmentier (RN deputy for Pas-de-Calais) since it was recorded by reporting services. This word has no place in the hemicycle,” underlined Valérie Rabault, PS vice-president of the Assembly.

The insult “assassin” already used in the National Assembly

“I will notify the office of the National Assembly”, its highest authority, “which will carry out a more precise investigation”, she added. When questioned, Caroline Parmentier affirmed that the word “assassin” was “obviously aimed at Hamas” and not Jean-Paul Lecoq. During the question session to the government, the communist deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq attacked the Israeli authorities accused of “unleashing themselves against the Palestinian population” since “the terrorist aggression of Hamas in Israel”.

Jean-Paul Lecoq called for a “ceasefire” and “recognition of the Palestinian state”. A “murderer”, pronounced by the rebellious Aurélien Saintoul, had already resounded in the hemicycle during the tumultuous debates on pension reform in February 2023. The LFI deputy targeted Minister Olivier Dussopt regarding deaths at work. His exit had caused a suspension of the session and the indignation of the other camps, and he had apologized. Aurélien Saintoul received a call to order with entry in the minutes, i.e. the withdrawal of a quarter of his parliamentary allowance for one month.
