Ana Abrunhosa (PS) leaves the debate after a speech she considered ‘xenophobic’ from Chega’s candidate [com vídeo]

Ana Abrunhosa, head of the PS list for the Coimbra circle for the next legislative elections, yesterday left the debate with candidates from the various parties that was taking place at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra after statements that she considered “xenophobic” from the candidate António Pinto Pereira, candidate of Arrive in Coimbra, right at the beginning of the session. The Minister of Territorial Cohesion left the table, to applause, apologizing to everyone present. “I have immense respect for you but I refuse to participate in xenophobic speeches. I have a lot of respect for myself, but above all I have for you. I ask for a huge response”, stated the PS candidate, then abandoning the debate, as did the entire Socialist Party delegation she was accompanying.

Ana Abrunhosa refused to continue in the debate due to António Pinto Pereira’s “racist and xenophobic” statements, speaking about the immigrant population in Portugal. Furthermore, she designated women as the “most fragile layers” of society.

Ana Abrunhosa participated in a round table with representatives from each party on ‘Promoting entrepreneurship and what consequences it has for Portugal’, following the creation of the website, ‘I’m going to vote, what now?’, part of the Académica Start UC Project: ‘Empower Yourself’, which arises in the context of the Legislative Elections of March 10, 2024 and the need to clarify University Students regarding the proposals of each party/candidacy, with a special focus on measures aimed at Innovation and Entrepreneurship in a National context, at funding for Research in Higher Education and measures aimed at retaining Talent and qualified Young People, in order to ensure a more informed vote by young people, we will carry out an in-person activity.
